Show Breeders Sell Better Pups asked: I have a 2 year old Australian Shepherd female. She is on “Taste Of The Wild” – Salmon Blend, due to allergies. She is fed 3/4 cup once a day- Our vet reccommended this, as she is an “easy keeper” and gets fat very easily. She is STILL fat.
She seems to always be on the lookout for food. If a single crumb drops in our house, you can bet she will find it. She’s always scanning counters for food that may be on the edge, checking the garbage for easy grabs, etc. Not to mention that she eats Litter Fritters out of my cat’s litter box
We have come up with some solutions but haven’t put any into action yet. My cat’s litter box is going to go up on a raised table so only she can get up there. We are generally good about keeping food off the counters, etc But she is still SO hungry.
She doesn’t get a lot of exersise currently because she is so close to her whelp, so it’s definately not that she is burning calories off. Before, I would either bike ride with her for 2 miles, or I’d trot her on the treadmill on days that were cold/rainy or I was too sore, but even then, we didn’t see much improvement because she was still *so* hungry.
I know that once she whelps, her puppies are literally going to **** the nitrients right out of her and she’s going to lose all the weight she’s been harboring- But onec those puppies are gone, she’s going to return to counter-surfing.
Should I feed her multiple times a day? We tried this briefly and saw no improvement. I feed her at night, just before bed.
I think that sometimes Vets don’t pay attention to every detail and just go with what they know, so that’s why I am asking here. FYI, My Aussies does have another x-ray on Friday and i will be asking about her weight again then, but I want YOUR advice and YOUR opinions on what works.

No, it’s not worms. Worms are very uncommon in Alaska to begin with and her **** is normal and worm free. I’ve checked, hah.
